Post subject: Soyo KT600 Dragon Platinum question
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>soyo (more info?)

I have a question for any Soyo KT600 Dragon mobo users:

Do Soyo KT600 based mobos have any kind of cpu fan -speed- control like
the Asus A7V600 board? I'm frustrated with this Asus board and the
dumb-ass gigabit LAN implementation they did on this, and am looking to
switch to a different KT600 based board.

Right now, I'm looking at either an MSI Delta FIS2R, or the Soyo Dragon
Platinum, and right now, the fan speed control thingie is a deciding
factor for me.

Thanks,
Rick

Don't know what type of fan speed control the Asus has, but the Soyo
600 Ultra incorporates a feature called FanOffControl or FOC. It monitors
the cpu fan speed, and if it drops below about 2000rpm for more than
2 seconds, the FOC will shut down the power supply thinking the cpu fan has
stopped. This is Soyo's way of preventing a cpu from overheating. It can be
disabled in the bios if you are using a large slow spinning fan. FYI, the
onboard lan on the Ultra board works fine.

I went for the A7V600 even though it didn't have firewire because I
figured for about the same money as the Soyo or ECS board, I could
simply add in a 1394b (firewire 800) card and also have gigabit
ethernet. Turns out I'm having the same problem I've heard others had
getting the 3Com chip to work and the mystery 'network device' problem.

Now I wish I would have followed my first instincts, and simply go with
the Soyo board. The main reason I went with Asus was because of my
previous experience with Asus boards over the years generally being very
good.

I downloaded the pdf manual on the Soyo board, and remember reading
about the FOC feature, but what I was refering to was CPU fan speed
control. The Asus board monitors mobo/cpu temperature, and has a cpu
fan 'throttle' that the user can set in BIOS by means of a ratio
setting. The asus board can have a ratio range of 15/15 to 10/15 with
the 10/15 setting being the quietest mode. I was just wondering if the
Soyo has anything similar. Abit's and MSI's KT600 boards also have a
similar feature.
