Hi there,

I have KT7A rev1.1 and want to put new XP on.
My choices are:

1) XP 1800+ Palomino @ 35 euros
2) XP 2400+ TBred @ 77 euros
3) XP 2500+ Barton @ 85 euros

What would be the best overclocking for each
of these config?

Thanks.

Best choice would be a unlocked xp2100 tbred.
The xp 2400 is problably locked but the fastest choise.
The palomino might be overclockable but not faster than 2000+
The barton might not work fine on this board. And if it would it would work
at a low clockspeed.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Thanks Erik.
XP 2100+ is hard to find and more expensive than XP 2400+.
If 2400+ is L1-unlocked, what would be the best o/c on my board?
Do I have to consider XP 2700+ TBred as well?

Forget the Palimino, it will top out about 1800MHz after a lot of modding.
The 2400+ will work fine, locked or not. The 2500+ would need to be an
unlocked model and then it would need a couple of bridges cut on the cpu.
If it's locked, forget it. The 2400+ is by far your safest choice and
would clock to maybe 15x145 (2175Mhz) if locked. If unlocked, you may get
up to 2400MHz out of it.

Amd has started locking the multiplier internally after about week 0338.
the L1 bridge condition won;t matter. Still, it will work.

 > Do I have to consider XP 2700+ TBred as well?

No. Don't consider any other than a 266FSB model unless you're sure it's
not internally locked. If it not internally locked, any model can be made
to work.

Several people on this newsgroep have a locked xp2400 succesfully running on
this board.
Some bios settings are very important to use with this combination.
I got mine running fine with bios settings:
10,5x133 (strange setting but it works!)
memory delay : no delay
drive strenght : 2
ram speed: fast

The XP 2700+ TBred might work as well but I don't know with what settings.
(Another poster had his xp2400 working using automatiq settings for
processor instead of 10,5x133)

For more info ask Wess or see on his page

Hi Wes
Have the same situation, how do you tell if the cpu is made before week
0338?

Look at the date code on the cpu label. I hear some may be locked as
ealry as 0334, so you may want 0333 or earlier. The date code follows the
stepping code on the bottom line. Like AIUHB 0302 xxxxxx. Tbred B
core, week 2 of 2003.

On the cpu, it will say something similar to this:

AXDA2700DUT3C 9834509256125
AIUCB 0312VPHM ®© 1999 AMD

The 0312 tells you the year and week it would have been manufactured.
