Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>abit, others (more info?)

Greetings,

I recently set up a new system with a KV8-MAX3 mobo, 2x 36.7GB mirrored
raptors (CSmile on the VIA SATA controller and 2x 120GB mirrored Samsung
SpinPoints (DSmile on the SiL SATA controller. The mobo is running BIO 2.0.

I then drove the system over to Switzerland and over the course of the next
few days there had problems with the 2nd SpinPoint during bootup - it would
not be found on first boot, so I had to reboot and then it was found okay.
Also had regular reports from the Sil SATA tool that the RAID set was being
rebuilt on that drive. Eventually it died completely and I removed it from
the RAID set via the Sil RAID tool.

I opened up the case and reseated all the cables etc, and the drive is now
spinning up again and being found every time by the BIOS. I guess it had
got shaken up a bit during the drive over from England and one of the
cables was a bit loose (although those SATA connnectors are very flimsy).

I now need to add it back to the RAID set, but when I hit F4 or Ctrl-S
during boot it has no effect, so I can't get into the Sil RAID setup. More
worryingly, although I can hit TAB for POST and DEL for the main BIOS and
they work okay, when I later hit TAB for the VIA RAID setup that is also
ignored Sad

Now when I set up this system I used an old corded keyboard and mouse I had
laying around. Only after setup was complete did my Logitech Cordless MX
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse turn up, and that's what I am using now.

Could it be the use of the Bluetooth keyboard that is causing my attempts
to enter the two RAID setups to be ignored ? If so, I'll borrow a corded
keyboard and mouse from somebody and try again.

I'm also open to suggestions for any other possible causes...

Regards.

He already said RAID 1, and it is impossible for a RAID 0+1 ARRAY with
the hardware he has.

2x 36.7GB Mirrored = only RAID 1
2x 120GB Mirrored = only RAID 1

Impossible to have RAID 0+1 here.

Anyways, back to the main topic.

I am assuming you got one of those USB BlueTooth Keyboards where a USB
Adapter/Dongle is provided. For most motherboards you are required to
enable USB Keyboards in the BIOS setting. Otherwise, the keyboard will
not work until the computer has booted up Windows.

I am not really sure whether just enabling USB Keyboard will work on
your USB BlueTooth Keyboard, because I am not 100% sure how your
hardware works.

It is still best to borrow or have a PS/2 Corded Keyboard around
handy, just in case.

Correctamundo Smile

Correct on the USB adaptor/dongle, but USB keyboards are enabled in the
BIOS (otherwise I would be able to get into the BIOS via DEL key !). Might
be a BIOS bug (now there's a thing !).

Wait... I forgot to mention something really stupid about Logitech
Keyboard. Notice that the BT Logitech Keyboard.

By default, when you turn on the system, F-Lock is off. In order to
use the Function Keys you need F-Lock to be on. Might want to check
that out too.
