I bought some memory for my Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard..I received
KVR400X64C3/512, but when I check the download memory info on the asus
website for my motherboard,it says to get KVR400X64C3A/512..When it
comes to DDR memory I have no clue...There is a difference in the
timimg of the memory..one is 3-4-4(KVR400X64C3/512) and the other is
3-3-3(KVR400X64C3A)..Can the KVR400X64C3/512 work or do I need to send
it back to get the KVR400X64C3/512 one..Please help..thanks Rob >> Stay informed about: Kingston Memory |

Here is the listing for P4P800 Deluxe on the Kingston site. Both DIMMs
are listed as compatible:
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator/modelsinfo.asp?SysID=+146...&distri
They are the same price, the C3A is ever so slightly faster (you wouldn't
be able to feel the difference) and the C3A DIMM draws 0.5W less power.
That is what I see on the two datasheets for the DIMMs. Otherwise, they
are both 16 chip DIMMs.
The Asus QVL represents things they have tested, and is not an inclusive
list - there are plenty of other DIMMs that will work. If anything, Asus
should simply list memory chip types known not to work well, like telling
us to avoid Samsung chips or Winbond chips, as this practice of listing
particular DIMMs is a waste of time. DIMM construction is not fixed and
changes over time - "valueram" type DIMMs can be sourced by three different
suppliers, using different brands of chips, so listing such a DIMM as
compatible implies all three types have been tested.
To me, the only value of the QVL, is to show how much trouble to expect
if trying to use four sticks. If you think a motherboard is "picky"
about RAM, deal with someone who has a money back guarantee with what
they sell. Test the memory when it arrives with memtest86 or memtest86+,
so you can immediately return it if it isn't working out for you.

I'm about to upgrade my system with the same board, I've no idea what
type of memory to get. So I'm interested in seeing replies to your
question as well. >> Stay informed about: Kingston Memory |

YES! makes more sense, but though it helps us, if ASUS listed all the
incompatible chipsets, it would make them look bad .

I believe the 3A means it comes in a 2 piece kit form. I think that's the
one I got. >> Stay informed about: Kingston Memory |
