I was looking into getting a widescreen LCD... but I killed that idea
before it killed my credit rating.
So, I'm looking at a 17" to 18" LCD. The only 18 inchers I find have
a 0.28 dot pitch. I'm used to having a CRT with a dot pitch of .26.
I can find 17 inchers with .27 but not .26. Would I notice a
difference? Or am I missing a few models with 0.26 on an 18 inch?

i'm no expert, but I just bought a Samsung 191T with a 0.29 dot pitch,
and it's clearer than any CRT i've ever used. i don't think dot pitch
matters much for LCDs. contrast ratio (higher the better) and
brightness are important.

and if you're a gamer, look for Pixel Response to be < 20 (most are
around 25). i'm noticing some ghosting on games (in fact i just
posted about it) and the 191T has a 25ms pixel response.

if you're not a gamer, i would suggest the 191T. this thing is
beautiful. got it for $625 shipped (can't beat that price).

and if you have a video card that has DVI input, make sure your LCD
has DVI outputs (the 191T does).

by the way, the 191T is a 19", but they also make the 18" version -
the 181T.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Been a little while, but I'm looking at the NEC Multisync LCD1760v.
16ms pixel redraw time and its 17 inch. I've seen 18 inch LCDs out
there too, but nobody reviews them. I'm checking PCworld's top ten
list.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
