Hi,
Noticed a lot of post about Logitech's keyboard F Lock function and
how the default is for the F keys to access Logitech's extra
functions. Most people want the F keys to behave as F keys (including
me!). I got this useful advice from Logitech customer support. It
applies to the Navigator Keyboard (which uses iTouch) but probably
(hopefully..) applies to many others.
If you want the F keys to behave as F keys, no matter what, whether F
lock is on or off, this is what they suggest:
"However, if you decide on not using the special functions of the
F-keys at all,
you can set the F-keys as 'Transparent pass through'. This will allow
the use
of F-keys as default function keys and not special keys.
To set the ''Transparent pass through' option:
Note: For Windows XP computer, please ensure that you are logged in as
the
Administrator using the administrator password
1. Open the iTouch configuration. This can be opened by double
clicking the
iTouch icon on the system tray or from
Start|Program|Logitech|iTouch|iTouch
Configuration.
2. Click on the F-keys tab.
3. Click on F1.
4. Click on 'Modify'.
5. In the drop down menu select 'Transparent pass through'.
6. Follow steps 4 and 5 for all the F-keys (F2 to F12)."
Worked for me!
Regards

Thanks, unfortunately I do not have anything similar to "transparent pass
through" in my drop down menu options, using iTouch 2.21.
Where is it placed? 5th item from below, by chance?
I'm using the Italian version, and the only item which seems to have a
similar meaning is "Funzioni predefinite" (it would be "Default functions"
in English), which has the following description (translated into
English): "Do not use advanced keyboard input for this key".
But it doesn't seem to work correctly, e.g. it works for F1, but for F2 it
sends "SHIFT + H" instead of F2, and "CTRL + B" for F11.

I'm using iTouch 2.15.264
On the drop down menu the "Transparent Pass-through" option is 4th
from the end (the only options below it are "Reply email", "Forward
email", "Send email"). When pass through is selected, the additional
description given is "Do not use enhanced keyboard input for this
key", which is exactly as you described....
Hope this is of some help, although the menus / options may be
different in your setup!

Uhm, yes, it seems the menu item I tried, but it's 5th from the end here,
I have "Pressione tasto" ("key press" or something like that) immediately
below it, plus the others you listed.
I was going to try downloading an English version of iTouch, but it
occurred to me that this solution has the same fault as the one I
previously tried (I assigned to the "special" F-keys the normal F-keys
presses): you can't configure keys from F5 to F8!
What about you, can you configure F5, F6, F7 and F8 in your iTouch?

Just thought I'd suggest my fix here for anybody in the same predicament
(doesn't want the special F-Key functions at all, uses Win2K or XP):

I configured all F keys (F1 through F12) to use "pass through". The
option was available (and worked) for every key....

Ow! My iTouch configuration window does not show the F5-F8 keys at all,
only F1 through F4 and F9 through F12.
I uninstalled iTouch 2.21 and installed the one from the CD which came
with my keyboard, which happens to be version 2.15.264 like yours. Indeed,
the pass through option works fine with this version! And it's 4th from
the end.
But I still do not see F5-F8. I tried installing both Italian and English
versions.

Only thing I can suggest is for you to contact Logitech support by
e-mail. They managed to help me (and were quick to reply).
Good Luck Marco....

Curiously, just for the record, I also notice that the "initial type
delay" problem I reported before (Message-ID:
<qynd2iuczuyo.dlg.DeleteThis@starless.mdv>) has disappeared with 2.15.264.

I have the navigator keyboard and the same annoying problem
of the F-Lock always defaulting to OFF. I changed the f-key
assignments to "transparent pass-through", but it didn't
help. Specifically, I use the Total Commander file manager
(modeled on the old Norton Commander) which uses F-keys for
many functions. When I press an F-key with F-Lock OFF while
using TC the i-touch software echos "Transparent
Pass-through", but nothing happens in the file manager. I
still have to manually turn ON the F-Lock function to get
the F-keys to work properly in Total Commander. Is anyone
else using Total Commander and seeing this problem?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Logitech F Lock default - a solution of sorts! |

No, but iTouch is a pain in the ass.
If you're going to use transparent pass though, you can;t use the extra
functionality and thus iTouch is not useful.
If you are using Win2K or WinXP and don't mind plugging the keyboard in on
PS/2, then check out my page here for a more elegant (and working) solution
to your problem:
