I have a Chaintech S1689 MB withn the ULi M1689 chip set that I finally got
a
long enought FDD cable to
connect to both by 5.25 (yes I said 5.25!) and 3.5 floppy drives.

But, to my horror, I have discovered that it seems this MB only supports 1
floppy drive at a time. Either the 5.25 or the 3.5 - but not both

I was (and still am) very P........ about it

I have read that MB manufactures have (for some stupid idea of progress!)
have stoped supporting 2 Floppys (or even one).

Given that I may have one of these MB - Is there a way to tell/forced the MB
to support 2 Floppys?

Like a BIOS update?

Or have I become another pot hole on the road to progress?

P.S. Yes, I have e-mailed Chaintech, but, after 4 days all I got was a
pre-written answers that they will get to me as soon as possible.

>Not if it only supports one. And the specs on the board say it only
supports 1.

DARN!

I really used must stronger words - but the kiddies may be reading Wink

>sell floppy controllers with and without serial and parallel ports

Yes, but with ISA slots - And All I have is PCI.

>Another option would be an LS120 IDE floppy

Nice, but my IDE Slots are full with 2 hard and 2 CD drives.

Another solution that would be perfect (if such a product was even made)
would be a USB to Floppy Drive (or SCSI to floppy drive) internal adapter.

BTW if I knew that this board had only 1 FDD connection I would have sent
it back. But, I only found out last Saturday - 3 months after getting it!

Well, it seems its time to put my 5.35 drive next to the B&W Zenith TV in
the Attic!

But, one last (non floppy) question.

My MB also has SATA connectors for those new Hard Drives.

Can they be used along with the "normal" IDE drives for a possibility of up
to 8 drive connectors?

Or if they the SATA's are used at lease one of the IDE connector will be
usless?

Or is the way SATA' and IDE'S are handled up to each MB Manufacture?

P.S. I'll keep ypu e-mail handy just in case I may want that super drive.

Connect your 5.25 to the floppy controller and buy an external USB floppy
drive. That's what I did.
