Post subject: MS MM kb 1.0 Qs
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>keyboard (more info?)

I have the MS MultiMedia keyboard 1.0. The two things that bug me are the F
Lock and Num Lock not being on as I boot. I know the NumLock is normally set
in bios but I can't see it in there anywhere. And I can see Ben Pope's fix
for the F Lock thing for Logitech KBs but none for the MS one.

Are these set in "Intellitype"? What exactly is that? Nothing in my package
explains the use of it or Intellipoint, and I don't want to install two more
utilities just to see what they do. But if it sets these on boot I'll
install it. If it doesn't what else can I do about this?

Thanks, all.

It's something like Boot Up Numlock Status in BIOS Features

I think it can be part of the user profile in Windows too, but not sure
where to set it.

Glad you found an equivalent fix for the MS Keyboards.

Well, Google found <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mvps.org/jtsang/flock.html" target="_blank">http://www.mvps.org/jtsang/flock.html</a> for me, which does
the F Lock key for the MS MM keyboard. Seems to be the same principle as
Ben's fix. Still looking out for the NumLock equivalent though. Thanks.

I found it in the registry, in HK_USERS, default, control panel, keyboard.
InitialKeyboardIndicators has a range of settings from 0 - 7 which set
numlock, caps lock, and scroll lock to initial states. I just wish it
extended to F Lock.

0 - all indicators off
1 - Caps Lock on
2 - Num Lock on
3 - Caps Lock and Num Lock on
4 - Scroll Lock on
5 - Caps Lock and Scroll Lock on
6 - Num Lock and Scroll Lock on
7 - Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock on

Now my problem is that the Insert key is on the same button as PrtScn/SysRq;
with F Lock on I can't use shift-INS to paste from clipboard. Dammit, I use
that all the time. Why couldn't they just leave things alone Smile
