I currently am using 512meg of PC133. I've built an indentical system for my
som. His machine has 256meg PC133 so I was going togive him mine and by
new memory. Is it worth it to go DDR? Exactly what kind of DDR mem should
I get? Thanks.

If you are building a NEW system from scratch, YES it's worth
getting DDR.

If you are upgrading a system with EXISTING RAM, then the answer
usually is NO it's not worth it.

In your situation, if you decide to give your son your existing RAM
and replace your own system's RAM, then YES get the DDR.

The "bottom line" is that you will only see about an 8% increase in
memory throughput from using DDR.

Thanks, Bob. I remembered reading about the small increase in performance.
I also remembered reading of a few people that had problems with DDR in the
K7S5A. Since I haven't had any problems with my current ram and could save
a few bucks buying PC133 vs. DDR, I just went out and bought 256 PC133 and
my son tells me that it speeded up his system considerably, especially when
playing games, which surprised me.

Wait until he sees how the 7200rpm drive I bought him speeds things up. ;}

Actually, I'm just about to pack up my Atari 1040STe and find a spot
for it in the computer museum in the attic...

It's fully maxxed out at 4 whole Megabytes... but I realized recently
it's been about 4 years (maybe even more) since it's been turned on.

Doesn't take up all that much room, but every little bit helps..!

I have read serveral atrilces which showed the you only get a slight
increase with the DDR in this board . However , you make want to get
the DDR if it is close to PC133 in price so you can use it down the
road in a DDR only motherboard . Crucial brand is generally a pretty
safe bet .
