Hi all. I'm a new Sony DSC owner and have a couple of qustions:

1. Can one ruin a memory stick (or DSC cam) by manipulating or writing
to the stick stick using a USB reader? I've been transferring, editing,
and writing to my memory stick through Windows explorer. I had a non
standard resolution file (640 x 880) that was on the stick when I put it
in the camera. I got an error message on my cam and could not view or
format the stick. Put it back in the reader, deleted the file,
formatted, then no problem since.

2. I saw somewhere that memory sticks have a longer usable life span
than other camera storage media. Is it true that other cards have a
shorter life expectancy? Never had a problem with the cards for my Fuji.

Thank you!

Most digital camera aren't designed to handle images the camera didn't
takie. Especially those with nonstandard format like 640x880

I don't know if that's true but I do know Smartmedia card have very lousy
life. There's been reports of SM failing easily probably due to the contact
being exposed and flush with the body while all opther memory card used
recessed contacts.
