Memory bank 1 & 2 dead on 965P-DQ6

I bought one of these motherboards on ebay (revision 1) and when I put
memory modules in either slot 1 or 2 the machine starts up, the fans
start spinning but it then stops. After a few seconds it tries to start
again but again stops. Looking through posts in this usergroup it would
seem that the boot up process doesent like the memory. If however I put
the memory in slot 3 or 4 or both the machine boots up fine. I have seen
posts with a problem with memory slot 3 which appeard to be the bios so
I upgraded to the latest version (Rev 11, it was Rev 9) but still the same.

I am using Kingston 1GB 1.8v modules which should be compatible. Anyone
else experience this?
