I was wondering if I could put together a system using an NF7-S and 2X 256mb
Kingston PC2100 valueRam and an Athlon XP 2800+ barton . I know the bus for
the barton is 166mhz and the memory bus is only 133 mhz, but I already have
these components (the barton cpu, nf7-s motherboard and the ram) and will
upgrade the ram later. Will the it work async? Will it work at all? What
settings do you recommend until the ram is upgraded? I do know that the
multiplier on this barton is locked (week 51 2003) <bummer>.

I appreciate an constructive criticism, as I'm putting together this system
tomorrow for a friend and he is too broke to spring for more ram right now.

Thanks,
Aaron

The Nforce2 chip set supports asynchronous FSB/menory clock speeds so your
cpu and ram will work together (set the FSB/RAM ratio to 5/4). Performance
would be MUCH better however if you got some PC2700 or PC3200 ram and ran it
in-synch.

I hate to say it but I noticed no difference when going from PC2100
(overclocked to 150Mhz) on an asynch setup to PC3200 on a synchronous setup.
This was w/a Barton 2800+.

I guess it depends on what applications you're running....CPU/momory
intensive apps should see a big difference.
