All seems to work OK untill I install SATA driver. Even with nothing
connected to the channel the system freezes on boot-up when it gets to the
Windows XP opening screen. I then have to boot to the last known working
setup to start.
I was wanting to use the SATA channel justas another channel to connect a
hard drive, not RAID. I'm new to SATA so any help please.

Not sure about NF7, but on IC7-G had to enable IDE Bus Mastering to make
SATA work....even though ABIT manual says IDE Bus Mastering is for legacy
DOS stuff. You also need to install the SATA chip drivers to WINXP before it
will work with SATA. Hope this helps.

Was just coming on to mention the same issue. Its been doing it for some
time on my system but I've coped as it only freezes for about 2-3 minutes
and I rarely reboot/switch off my PC.
Its not the BIOS, or that its overclocked. Its not the drive on it, as it
always freezes with SATA enabled. Have been using the same SATA XP drivers
for months before without problem. Really can't figure why it just started.
I had not assumed it was SATA and did a clean install of windows and still
the problem remains. Have now ditched one optical drive so I don't need
SATA, but would rather get this sorted.

I am running a 9800 pro ATI Hercules board, Win pro XP, 1 gig dual channel
DDR400, and AMD +2500 Barton. I am new to the SATA as well but this is what
I did and it worked fine. When I went to install I decided to go and load
the drive with just the IDE connection as this is what I was used to. After
full install of XP I made sure all of my updates were in especially the WIN
SP1 service pack. After that, I decided to tackle and see what the SATA was
all about. I removed the drive and plugged in the SATA adapter and started
the PC. Well, this was all new to me but it did not boot and I had to go
into the BIOS and modify settings in there to tell it that it was the SATA
drive that was booting and not your typical IDE drive. This was brand new
to me cause I have 2 drives in and the 2nd or SLAVE drive is IDE and the
main is SATA so you have to set it up correctly. What is wild is it worked
like a charm. Now when the bios boots it shows nothing for an IDE master
drive and you see the SATA drive listed. Hopefully this will help. But the
main point I wanted to make is I loaded everything IDE and then after the
updates I just switched the drive to the SATA and everything just clicked
into the plug and play. I did not even have to use the diskette to load any
drives/software with it.
