I'm looking into the purchase of a switch to extend a small
network. The area of expansion is in an accessible area.
It hasn't been decided whether we want to limit accessibility
where anyone might want to connect their laptop to the network.
We're not worried about any joe-blow connecting, but we're not
sure if in the future someone might abuse the use of the
network.
I was looking at the documentation for the Netgear GS716T switch
but could not find anything to restrict a connection based
upon a MAC address, which what I would think we would want.
I looked at the user's guide for their GS748T switch and
there is a section on "Controlling Switch Access by MAC address".
I don't know whether Netgear has similar firmware between
their different models.
Anyone familiar with Netgear in this regard?
TIA
