So which one is the best? I'm leaning towards the PowerColor. Only because
they have a model with a larger cooler available and they sound like they
know what they are doing, but I haven't got a clue which one would be
better. Anyone have any ideas and why? Support? Accessories?

Diamond: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103050

HIS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161212

PowerColor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131072

Sapphire: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102713

VisionTek: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129100

They all sell for the same price on Newegg -- $219.00. From what I can
tell, they all have the same accessories included with them, and they all
get their updates from the same source. The only difference I can see are a
few stickers.

So maybe I should wait for ATI to come out with their own one? Probably
would cost $40 more. They usually do. I purchased my x1950 pro from
Sapphire and was not happy with the support they offered, but the board was
OK. Anybody have an idea on these distributors?

Should I jump on the one that is available first, or should I hold out for a
particular brand?

The stock cooler is very good this time around. Visiontek offers a lifetime
warranty, which to me is a strong selling point, even over an ATi-branded
one, if and when it becomes available.

NCIX.com has them in stock for $229Cdn....and yes, they ship to the US. You
can even use Paypal or Amex.

It's listed as out of stock, with ETA 11/27/2007.

BTW, I think American customers have to order through NCIXUS.Com in American
dollars.

Good find! Funny, the Newegg page says 1 year warranty
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129100
but the VisionTek site says limited lifetime warranty.
http://www.visiontek.com/teksupport/warranty/limited_warranty.html
They are based in Illinois, which looks good for RMA service. I am looking
at their web site for more RMA info but see none. I imagine you have to
write the tech support directly. Some posters on their forum mention RMA'ing
cards. Does anyone have any RMA experience with this company?

This is good news for ATI fans. Since ATI dropped warranty from 3 years to 1
year, I have stopped buying ATI cards. The ATI partners are not based in US
and only offer "return to place of purchase" support. Lately I have only
been buying eVGA, XFX or BFG cards but will seriously consider a VisionTek
HD 3870.

This smells, they don't have any for $219. And they still don't at $269.00
(for now). But I wonder if they will get some in at the new higher prices
soon. What's the problem, a run-away winner? How can five different brands
have the same price, go up at the same time, and still have the same price.
Isn't their a thing called price fixing in the USA?

Hope they go on sale again. I like $219 allot more than $269. At the new
price, I am going to step back and see where things are going. Maybe pick
one up on sale when they go down again (wishful thinking.)

I just spotted this card at FRYS, under Diamond for $229 with a $20 rebate.
http://shop1.outpost.com/product/5449449?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Yes, they are out of stock too.

This price from Newegg can't stand. What is going on with Newegg?

Visiontek has been offering lifetime warranties since the Geforce2 days (the
company was a large mfr of nVidia reference boards, supplying other vendors
like Elsa). BFGTech was founded by exiled Visiontek executives.

$219 was the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price but the few they had sold
out quickly at that price.

Newegg are selling the 3850, (which are *in stock*) at MSRP though.

It's not price fixing, it's supply and demand. Supply is low, demand is
high, prices go up. They know people will pay it, so they make more
money while they can. It's called capitalism.
