I've used my Nikon 995 P&S for >5 years and >10,000 pictures, and it
now has a couple of problems:
1.It sometimes misses shots. In Auto mode, when I hit the shutter
release, it appears to take the picture: the LCD display blanks,
the green LED flashes, and the QuickDelete and Pause icons appear
on the LCD. But, when the LCD unblanks, the count of shots left
has not changed, and the image has not been stored. This happens
with any of my 4 CF cards, and with any of my 4 batteries.
Is there a known cure, or is it End Of Life?
2.With flash, the battery discharges way too fast. I only get 10-20
shots with flash on before the battery is fully drained; I'm sure
I got many more when the camera was new. Some of my 4 batteries
are worse than others, but even with a new (4 month old) battery,
using flash quickly drains the battery.
Is there a known cure, or is it End Of Life?
I just returned from a trip where I took >1,000 shots -- and missed
another 100 or so due to problem (1). If there is no cure, then
I'm in the market for a new camera. Sigh.

You could find another Nikon 995 on Ebay or maybe check with Nikon support
to see if it is practical to repair.
A 3.34 Megapixel camera is showing its age now.
There are 6-7 Megapixel cameras now for what you paid for that camera 5
years ago.
