I just got a ST61G4, looking at the info on shuttle.com I determine that my
st61g4 is a BOM 11.
And is limited to using any northwood or a prescott 2.8ghz cpu. Something
to do with the need for a special voltage regulator
(http://eu.shuttle.com/xpc_updates.htm). Reading all the reviews on intel's
new prescott cpu and how it is built for the future in mind I'm seriously
thinking of getting a prescott. However enlight of the having to worry which
prescott I can use ( speed wise). I don't know if I should just get a
northwood? The Northwood is a little faster than the prescott even though
the prescott's L2 cache is double the size (1meg). Is there anybody out
there that has a ST61G4 shuttle xpc and that is running a high end cpu? I
would like to know how you are making out?

Hi bolo

My ST61G4 runs 2.8 Prescott and 2x S80G ATA, TV card, FX5700 Graphics.
It runs nicely (not too hot). Friend went up to the 3.0 Prescott and runs
hotter but OK.
We decided from everything we have read that 3.2 is too hot.

It really depends on your application. I run Windows MCE and 2.8 is plenty
fast for that stuff. In the scheme of things you don't get much more for
that
..2 GHZ. Also remember that everyting is going .NET so the larger L2 Cache
will help in future releases of Windows.

Thanks for the info. However what BOM is your ST61G4? Bom11 is what I have,
which is limited to prescott 2.8ghz. If your friend is running a prescott
3.0ghz it might be a Bom14. Which is supported. I just don't want to buy a
prescott 3.0ghz and have my xpc rebooting and or crashing now and then. So
if you can, please check out the BOM number which is the the 5th and 6th
number on the back of the xpc. it's not the serial number, but the other
sticker that's on the back panel.
