Post subject: another P4P800 RAID ?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>asus (more info?)

I've got 2 mirrored 120 GB PATA disks from an ABIT IT7 MAX2 ver 2 board. I
want to install these in the IDE Raid ports of my P4P800 deluxe. I was
hoping the pair would be recognized as a set, but if not i can format and
re-create the mirror if I need to.

The problem is they will not show up at all....not even as a connected hd in
the bios. At first I had them connected on one cable as master/slave. I
then put each on their own port on a separate cable as master/master and
then master/slave. Still nothing.

I was able to get a different single drive to show up so I know I have the
settings righ tin the bios.

The problem is I want to make sure the drives will be recognized before I
erase the data.

Can this be possible that the drives are not showing up at all because they
are in a raid array that may not be recognized?

Shouldn't make any difference in the BIOS detecting the drives.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Ok that's what I thought. Guess I'll try and play with the jumpers some
more.

Just thought I'd let you know my mistake. I would plug the raid drives in
and look at the boot up screen where it showed the connected devices. If
nothing showed I reconfigure the drives. The drives were not showing up in
the boot screen, however if I went into the RAID management utility they
were there. Very strange. Once configured, they showed up proberly on the
boot screen.

Strange, I never had to do that. I just connected them and they showed up in
the VIA BIOS screen (not in the P4P800 boot screen).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
