The MB only has so called 'fakeraid'/'hostraid' or whatever you want
to call it (i.e. really nothing more than a driver for the OS with
hints in the BIOS as how to execute the RAID operation - which is all
executed in the CPU). Also describing the board as having RAID is
going a little far, only the JMICRON SATA (one external E-SATA and one
internal SATA) is RAID enabled; I.e. there is only one internal drive
that can belong to a RAID array (!#@!) - my feeling is that ASUS's
marketing department have gone just a little too far here!
Take a look at what the Adaptec can do (in addition to being true
hardware RAID), its capabilities are close to having OS independent
LVM (Linux)/Dynamic discs (Windows), i.e. many separate redefinable
volumes (appearing as SCSI discs) with different RAID levels from one
RAID set - that capability I can use.
