Post subject: Matrox P750 - triple RGB?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>videocards>matrox (more info?)

I too bought one of these from Scan this week. Now I am wondering if it will
do what the web site describes it will do. Clearly on the matrox site the
card can display triple RGB analogue.

However Powerdesk doesn' have a setting for 3 independent rgb displays.
You can have 2 independent plus 'features'.

Can anyone tell me what 'features' is?

I am wanting to use powerpoint as follows:-
display 1 - independent screen
displaye 2 - powerpoint program
display 3 - powerpoint output presentation from (2)

Is this possible? Any help appreciated.

I was looking earlier (only getting a P650 though) and as far as I can see
you can use 3 screens in "Stretched Mode" It is in the FAQ on the site at
http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/faq/details.cfm?id=160

It was this that made me decide to go for a 650 and I will use my trusty
PCU G450 for Screens 3 and (maybe) 4.

I would have stayed with my AGP G400MAX but it is one of the earliest
versions and will not work on a 1.5v MB Sad

Here's the bit from the Help section of PowerDesk-HF (it's beautifully
formatted at this end, but I'm sure it'll look different on the
neewsgroup....)

3 displays
a.. 2 displays, Independent mode + 1 feature display -- Use 2 independent
displays for your Windows desktop. With Windows controls, you can select a
separate resolution, color palette, and relative virtual position for each
display. Full-screen features (for example, PureVideo/DVDMax) appear on
another display.
b.. 2 displays, Stretched mode + 1 feature display -- Use 2 displays for
your Windows desktop. Both displays must use the same resolution and color
palette. Windows treats these displays as if they were 1 but the Matrox
display driver divides this Windows display into 2 side-by-side displays.
Full-screen features (for example, PureVideo/DVDMax) appear on another
display.
c.. 3 displays, Stretched mode (including features) -- Use 3 displays for
your Windows desktop. The 3 displays must use the same resolution and color
palette. Windows treats these displays as if they were 1 but the Matrox
display driver divides this Windows display into 3 side-by-side displays.
Full-screen features (for example, PureVideo/DVDMax) can appear on one of
the 3 displays.
So - you can't do exactly as you describe, no.

You might be interested to read the following. I found them months ago in
newsgroups somewhere (and copied them on to my PC). I've never done the mod
myself.

A) The earliest revisions of the G400 are wired so the new motherboards see
them as 3V. However the G400 runs on both 3 and 1.5V. If your G400 is one of
these early ones, you can easily modify it. You only have to bridge the R68
point on the PCB. Just insert a copper strand from a wire into the holes and
drop some solder on it.

B) simply take a pencil and bridge the open R68 spot

I have one of those early G400s and would like to be able to use it in my second
system. But tackling that sounds a bit scary! Surprised

It gets better, Matrox does say that some MB will and some will not, well
my Asus board does see the G400 MAX and it works fine. Unfortunately (or
not) I have already bought and paid for the P650.

Thanks for the tip, I am an Electronics Engineer so the above sound simple
but it came to late to save me the money Sad

No worries. Keep us informed on how you get on with your P650.

P650 is nice, annoying thing is with the new Powerdesk though, you cannot
set up a shortcut to move program displays to the primary display.

As I often use my workstation remotely under VNC this is a problem so I
have sent of a request to Matrox and put my old G400MAX back for now.

The new Drivers seemed solid which is good.
