Post subject: P965-S3 POST issues - dead memory controller?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>giga-byte (more info?)

Hey all,

I've had my P965-S3 for several months now, it's a rev 1.0 model that
(was) running the original BIOS that came with the board. This morning
after having left the machine on overnight (Note that it's normally on
24/7) I found that I couldn't run any programs or shutdown at all. I
could use programs that were already open though.

Long story short, I hard-off'ed the machine at the wall and tried
booting again, now it gets stuck at the memory test but only actually
shows the text "Memor" before hanging rather than running through the
memory test and POST'ing nicely.

Have tried resetting BIOS using jumpers, using only 1 of the 2 RAM
sticks in pretty much all slots all to no avail. Have emailed the e-
tailor I bought the board from and Gigabyte themselves but have heard
some pretty nasty horror stories regarding GB's tech support!

Anyone else had this problem or could shed some light on where to go
from here?

Thanks

Tom Carlson
