Dear All,

I've been handed a PC, MS-6758 875P-Neo Twin SATA RAID drives and one IDE
drive. This PC has decided not to boot all of a sudden with no changes made
to it. The IDE drive is active only for a few seconds, then nothing else
apart from fans running.
Should I start looking for an identical MB to replace this one?

Many thanks,
Will.

Hi,

I think that the standard troubleshooting procedure would be to pull
everything out of the case, including the mobo, the populate the mobo
with just the CPU and heatsink+fan, a known good video card and known
good stick of RAM. Make sure it's on a non-conducting surface.

Plug in a monitor and connect a (known good) power supply, then power it
on, and see what happens. You may need to momentarily short the "power
switch" pins on the mobo to get it to power on and then see what
happens.

Assuming that works, then start plugging in components one-at-a-time
(with power OFF, of course), and then powering on until you find the
problem.

Jim

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me.
I have done everything you have advised, but it is still the same.
What bdo you mean by "short the power pins"?
Is this the same as clearing CMOS with the jumpers?

Will.

doesn't it have the 4 LED bracket on the back that gives you an error
code?...am not sure about Intel Boards but I know MSI Amd boards have that
bracket..

what I had to do once to check it out properly is what was said before. I
assembled the board ,cpu, ram and vid on the motherboard box, then shorted
out the power pins and had a full boot starting. I checked further and my
friends son had a M/b stay in wrong spot. Fixed that and it was okay. You
may want to do the cardboard build just to be sure..make sure none of the
power plugs are loose..does the vid card need a power plug? and is it
connected?..but you tried another vid..sry. It shows initializing video but
you have no video?..check that card in another system. If you have thermal
paste, remove and reseat the cpu. Just another question..did your friend
happen to flash the BIOS at all?

Since the monitor never turns on, it is very possible your not making it
past the video initializing in the boot process. Remove and reseat the
video card, check the monitor connections, etc. You should see something on
the monitor if all is well in this portion of the boot process. If not,
take a look at the video card, cables, monitor, and motherboard for possible
replacement. If you have a spare video card, you might try it in your
system or try your existing card in another system to determine what needs
to be replaced.

I thought you said you had 4 green LEDs, which would indicate you are ready
to boot to the OS. If you still can't see anything on the monitor, look at
the monitor cables, monitor power cables, or try another monitor. Could
your monitor have gone bad? Connect it on another system and see it its
okay. It is remotely possible for the monitor to be out of sync range with
you video card. However there is normally a monitor warning that pops up on
the screen. My old Samsung 900p did this and I had to connect another
monitor just to readjust my video setting into range to get the monitor to
work properly.
