Post subject: PCI Card Selection To Drive LCD Monitors
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>video (more info?)

Hi all,

New here and hope y'all can lend a hand. I am getting nowhere with the
dozen or so Gateway "help desk" folks I've emailed with and nowhere at
the Dell Forum. Thought maybe I would try here.

I have two Gateway LCD monitors: a 2285W that has a native resolution
of 1680x1050@60Hz and a 2485W that has a native resolution of 1920x1200
also at 60Hz.

The present Dell 3000 Intel integrated graphics controller does not put
out the required 60Hz refresh rate at either of these resolutions. Any
other "high" resolution will display a "Frequency Out Of Range" message.
The controller's drives are current - according to Dell and Intel.

So, I am in need of a PCI video card that can juice out the required
resolutions and 60Hz. Any ideas? Anybody using a PCI card and a LCD that
can check to see if both 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 at 60Hz shows up on the
"List All Modes" tab?

Next question(s):

Will using a DVI-D input to the monitor negate the 60Hz requirement? In
other words, 60Hz being an analog algorythm while DVI-D is a digital
signal (measured in nano seconds) is the Hertz refresh rate an issue?

These monitors are used in the print media. Hence, the high resolution
requirements and their ability to pivot. Gaming is not an issue
(shucks).

Thanks in advance.

My Acer does 1680x1050 at 61Hz. Didn't work right at 60 on a Matrox.

My Radeon 7000 AGP shows former at 61 and latter at 60 Hz.
Don't know if they made a dual-DVI PCI version.
