Post subject: PCI-E video cards on Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe --- limitations??
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>chips (more info?)

I'm having trouble setting up my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe; no a priori
reason to believe
it may be defective.

I'm connecting an AMD64 X2 4200+, with 2GB of DDR400 RAM (two pairs),
and a
PCI-E x16 video card with chipset nVidia (GeForce 6600 LE).

The thing won't boot, with beep code: long - short - short beeps
(the manual does not
have the beep codes, but from what I've found, it looks like it
indicates video device
trouble).

Does this MB model have any limitation with respect to the type of
video cards? The
very same video card works perfectly on a different motherboard that
has the same
chipset (a GigaByte GA-K8NXP-SLI). But it does not have the edge
connector at the
top (to enable SLI, as I understand it).

Don't have other video cards (PCI-E or regular PCI) to try, and
parts for this generation
of technology are beginning to be a bit hard to find.

Anyone out there that owns or has owned an A8N-SLI Deluxe that could
have some tips
to share?

Thanks!

Carlos

Sanity check:

I did get my hands on a PCI video card (*old* regular PCI, not PCI
Express),
and the thing will still give me the same beep code (long - short -
short).

That is not normal, right? I mean, I was suspecting that it might be
that
the MB was incompatible with PCI-E non-SLI cards.... But a regular
PCI video card *should* work no matter what no matter where ---
right?

I basically conclude that the MB is defective --- just wanted to
double check
my sanity first ...

Thanks,

Carlos
