hi,, is someone able to confirm that the *P6NS/E MB has non standard ribbon
cable connections to com2 ?
i am having hellss own trouble connecting a modem to com2 and after many
hours the trail is leading to a non existant pipe between the MB and the
modem.
i only ask after reading this post:

The answer is in the User's Manual. As an AT-type, pre-ATX motherboard,
the pinouts for the Serial Port may be non-standard at the motherboard end.
Many motherboard makers provided serial cable kits since the back-plane
connector end is standard. There was no serial port header mobo standard
at that time. IIRC, as a best guess, SuperMicro followed the pinout config
by Intel in its 440FX motherboard since the SuperMicro and Intel internal
serial cables were interchangeable.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

thanks for the response GR,, i was able to source a 'similiar' manual here:

the problem is solved (using a number of avenues) by persisting with
following the pipe from 'pinout' on the MB to the actual connection on the
modem PCB,, ensuring its integrity with a multimeter and constructing
layout diagrams.
i was not able to source any appropriate info for the KTX modem
(GVC Mod# SF-1133HV+/R16)

but stuck with Pin5 being GRD.
the DsuB9 to IDC combo that worked was:
1 -> 1
2 -> 2
3 ->3
4 -> 4
5 -> 5
6 -> 6
7 -> 7
8 -> 8
9 -> 9
i also used:
Com1 (Serial Mouse) I/O 2F8H
Com2 I/O 2E8H
as BIOS settings
in WIn98SE-Lite this resulted in Com1 as Serial Mouse and Com4 as the
modem.
