I have an old Pana CF-25 laptop. It has win 98 on it. Has 80 mb of ram
only, 4 gb HDD. Pentium MMX 200 CPU. Was just wondering if I could
upgrade it to XP? I am thinking not, but just wanted to confirm.
Most of the software that is available on the internet for WIndows
isn't compatible with WIn 98, any longer, is it?
thanks. >> Stay informed about: Panasonic CF-25: install Win XP? |

Compared to Windows XP, Windows 98 is difficult to work with. Then
again, you won't be doing high level personal computing on a Pentium
200 with a 4 GB hard drive. Having at least 512 MB of RAM helps. If
you've got less than 256 MB of RAM, Windows XP will struggle (or
maybe not run at all).
Make a copy of important files from the hard drive to removable
media.
With very little additional software, 4 GB might be enough. As long
as you've got important files copied to removable media, it won't
hurt to try. Do a clean install. In other words, format the hard
drive and then install Windows XP. First you should probably
slipstream service pack 2 into Windows XP if it's not already SP2.
Good luck. >> Stay informed about: Panasonic CF-25: install Win XP? |

Don't waste your time, it's not up to XP. Even Windows 200 would struggle on
that.
Although you could try putting linux on it I suppose.

That's a "Toughbook", right? I've seen them as very nice Linux machines
It's far too small to run any Windows later than 98.

I agree...Win2k would work...but just barely.

Windows has become a bigger program with each new version and a 4 gig
drive is not very practical for WinXP. >> Stay informed about: Panasonic CF-25: install Win XP? |
