My daughter has a 4 year old Aptiva pc with an IBM 6547 monitor and
the screen resolution is poor. ie, a photo is very grainny and not
usable, also the backgroung clouds on desktop looks like the surface
of a rubber basketball with flatten pimples. Color looks good. All I
have done is to shut down pc and monitor, tried different screen
resolutions with no obvious improvement. I would appreciate any
sugggestions on how to home in on problem.

Basically you have to try replacing either the video card or the monitor.

It sounds as though the problem is not "resolution", but color depth.
Presumably, you are using a 16-color setting. That is, you only have
16 colors available at any one time on the screen. Change the video settings
such that you have a resolution supporting 24-bit or 32-bit color. If you
have no such choice, then your video drivers are incorrectly installed and
should be removed and re-installed.

At least, that's my guess. }Smile
