How much Power can one USb handle ??
I have a Modem on one port i think, its using 500ma, its says USB root
hub in the settings, Device manager.
But i also have a printer connected their as well a 4ma printer, not
sure if they are using the same power supply if so would it be ok to
leave them like this, just installed them this way, becuase its the
only way i can.
I have an Addon card, which has twoother 100ma + devices on it as
well.
I have another USb connector on the board but can't get it to work
sent a email to ASUS maybe they can help me getting it going.
Thanks for any help. >> Stay informed about: How much Power can one USb handle ?? |

Would the 500 and 4ma be fine on the one port ?
I might get a hub, if i can't get the other addon board to work, that
will be all the USB ports i need and have one left over for something
else.
Thanks.

500ma is the absolute maximum for some boards whilst 100ma is the max
for others. but 504ma nay not be a problem.
Usually add on boards are 100ma types I believe, unless they have a
power socket added.

The modem and printer are pluged into the MOBO USB 1_2, so i would
think 500 ma would be for that.
I did have my modem pluged into the addon card 500ma, so the card is
500 ma.
But i could not plug anything else into it, even the printer, but on
1_2 the modem and printer work fine ?, no idea why that is.
Got my USB stick and Steering wheel pluged into USB 4_5 thats off a
card on the board.
USB 2_3 i can't get to work not sure why, maybe it needs a jumper to
power it up or somthing, maybe a dud card

I took a look at the USB 2.0 specification
(http://www.usb.org/developers/docs) and section 7 states devices can
consume 1-5 unit loads (1 unit load = 100mA); low-power is 1 unit load,
high-power is more than 1. All devices start out in low-power and the
device driver can enable high-power if needed. High-power ports must be
able to provide up to 5 unit loads. Low-power ports need only supply 1 unit
load.
From this is sounds like you can have up to 5 devices on a single high-power
port. However, if a device wants to operate in high-power mode (2-5 unit
loads), you may not be able to attach other devices to that port. You would
need a hub with external power. The device driver is required to not exceed
available power.

Asus has opted to include two onboard USB headers, however if you plan
on using both headers, you will be forced to disable the use of the
ACR slot, if you do in fact use it. This, along with the USB wake up
setting can be adjusted via the jumper set right above the headers.
