Well basically my problem is that everytime I try and turn up the volume
whilst playing a song my screen seems to black out and the song cuts off
Any suggestions?

Assuming it is a monitor with integrated speakers & amp, it sounds like a
possible failure in the audio amp within the monitor - turning up the volume
is
overloading the power supply. Also could be you're driving too much into the
"audio in" on the monitor - should use "line out" from the card, not the
speaker
out.
What happens if you run regular speakers directly from the audio card?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
