I have an older AMD Athlon proccessor I yanked from my system to
upgrade. It has the starting serial # of AXDC. I know its a 2000 but not
if it is a 2000XP. AMD's web site listed Athlon XP's as starting with
AXDA. Im I right in believing the one I have is a Athlon and not an
Athlon XP?

There should be one sure way to find out what it is you have....download and
run WCPUID.
