I pulled out my battery and changed pins, then put everything back,
the A8N-SLI won't get past POST. One long beep and 2 short beeps.

I asked a few days ago why my A8N-SLI beeps, but didn't get responses
so I posted this one.

Try to stick to one thread ..

If you have tried each stick of memory on its own and you still can't get
past POST then you are going to have to either try the ram in another
machine or try some known good ram in yours. I asked in your other post if
the OCZ had EVER worked in that machine.

In my case I had to adjust the ram voltages to allow the OCZ to even come
close to being stable. IF you have pulled the battery then you may have lost
settings that will take you further away from finding the actual cause of
your fault.

just a note ,

remve EVERTHING that is not needed to get past POST.

ie FDD . HDD , any PCI cards . If you have an integrated graphics card and
have disabled it for a plugin graphics card enable the integrated and remove
the plugin.

Also try eliminate the PSU, by substitution.

Regards

Maybe that is the beep pattern for a bad video card ? I tried
checking some Asus user manuals, but the table of beep codes is
missing for that motherboard series.

http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/awardB12-c.html

Power off the computer and unplug it. Before touching the motherboard,
ground yourself to the computer case. Now:

1) Check the paddle card. Remove the paddlecard carefully from its
connector, then plug it back in again. If it was making bad connections,
that may help it.

2) Power off again. This time, change the paddle card from the "non-sli"
position, to the "sli" position. Test the computer again. What this
does, is place x8 lane wiring on both video card slots.

3) Move the video card from its current slot, to the other slot.
Power up and test again. Any change ?

4) Does the video card have an auxiliary connector on the end of the card ?
Check the power cable.

I hope the video card slot is not blown.

HTH,
Paul

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll do all that in the morning.

Cub, I had 2x1GB PQI and 2x1GB OCZ (all PC3200) RAM installed at the
same time as you recommended and I configured them in all ways...and
still same problem. Resetting CMOS has worked twice, I got full use
and could do whatever I wanted...ran disk clean-up and defrag, but
when I went to check volume for errors and had to reboot, it went
right back to the beeps.

If I can get into the system every ten tries or so, what does this
eliminate?

Building this was a huge lesson: The $269 A8N-SLI Deluxe has a $785
FX-53 CPU in it...almost cost me 50% of everything I own! The video
card is an Asus ATI Radeon X800XT PE EAX800XT/PE/2DHTV/256 and cost
$700. Add a $50 Zalman fan, a $200 Soundblaster card, $150 P/S, 2xWD
HHD, DVD drives, and several cases of beer, I spent a lot on this as
my first rig...too much! (Well, the beer was worth it.)

Might sound daft but , remove all ram and see if the post beep changes ,
install 1st mem stick test, remove install second test etc etc

Another maybe impertinent scenario: it is quite easy to replace the
jumper with it missing one of the 2 correct pins. Simple, but I was a
victim of it once when jumper missed the end pin ever so slightly, yet
appeared correctly seated. s
