I have two harddrives in my computer right now. The first has Windows XP Pro
on it, and is set as the master drive. The second is an older harddrive with
a lot of data on it, and it is set as the slave drive. I want to transfer a
lot of the data off the old drive to the newer one, but the older one is not
displayed in "My Computer". When in BIOS, I have no problem detecting the
second drive. When I go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management, I am able to see the
older drive (including information regarding it's capacity, free space,
etc), but it has no drive letter. When I right click on it, the "Change
Drive Letter And Paths" option is grayed out. When I try to assign a drive
letter from the command prompt (RUN diskpart, list volume, select volume 3,
assign letter=D), I get a message saying "the volume you specified is not
valid, or does not exist." Does anyone know what I need to do to get that
second drive to show up in My Computer so I can copy
data from it to my master drive?

Is the drive showing in Disk Management as Basic or Dynamic? Is it FAT
or NTFS? Is BIOS set to autodetect the drive? If you right click the drive
can you display Properties? If so, take ownership.
