RAM Issues [Soyo Dragon Lite KT400]

Thanks Greg,

Just to clarify, its PC2700 256MB [off brand] and PC2700 512MB Kingston.

When I tried other brands, I used the "good stick" in all three slots, and
it worked fine. When I added other memory, it has been in various
combinations, and I still had the page fault and boot issues.

Now, I have the two memory stick in slots 1 [off brand] and 2 [kingston].
But I still have to go thru the BIOS resetting to get a good boot. I had
anothe stick of Elixer RAM in slot 3 [PC2700 256MB], but was getting the
BSOD, page fault and boot errors again.

In short, I did the slot shuffle already. I'm wondering if its the BIOS.

Do a Google search for free memory test programs. There are a couple out
there, memdoc (?) and simtester (?).

Test you various RAM configurations and see what results you get. From your
description I would bet you have memory problems and not a mobo problem.

i have a similar problem with my kt400 board using kingston pc2700 RAM
(512MB sticks). for some unknown reason if i have a stick of ram in
the 1st dimm slot the pc runs really slow, but if i move the stick to
either of the 2 other dimm slots it runs like a champ. i ran
memtest86 (www.memtest86.com) while having the 1 stick of memory in
the first dimm slot and came up with the following

Test result comments
1 pass
2 pass
3 fail 90 errors
4 pass
5 fail 668 errors
6 pass
7 pass

i sent the memory back to mwave for a replacement and purchased 2
additional sticks of 512MB (1GB total) now the pc runs great but for
good measure i have the memory in slots 2 and 3. slot 1 is empty but
as soon as i get the replacement stick of memory i'll put it in slot 1
and see what happens. here are my pc specs:
kt400 ultra, athlot xp 2100, 2x 512MB kingston pc2700, 2x 80GB WD hdds
set up as raid-0, asus 128MB geforce 4, justlink 48x12x50 cdrw, 3 80mm
chassy fans, mid tower w/350W ps

What happens if you use the Kingston by itself?

Would have been good to run memtest86 with the same stick in the other
DIMM slots. I suspect you have a glitched #1 DIMM slot.

IIRC, the KT400 series are not supposed to use 3 PC2700 DIMMS. Not
sure, though.

according to the manual you can go up to 3GB with 2100-2700, but you
can only use 2x256 or 1x512 of 3200 ram... or atleast last time i
checked in manual and on soyo website.... i'll check again
though..just to verify
