This is probably an FAQ question but I've had no resolution so far...

I'm using a Radeon 300 series card, OEM on my Dell. OS is WinXP Media
Center edition. S-Video out to my TV. On all applications except Media
Center player, I'm getting the desktop visible on my TV out, but just a
black space where the video itself should be. Tried VLC media player, Real
Player, etc to no avail. I can't use MC to view mp4s, so any help in
solving this would be hugely appreciated!

disconnect your monitor will make the video show up on your TV
