Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>videocards>ati (more info?)

Hello and thanks for listening.

My Radeon 7000 (32 MB) works fine in every way, except that when I
turn on the TV, I get no sound. Picture is fine, channels work fine,
just no sound. In the setup procedure there is a drop-down called
"sound". When I click that I see "captions when muted" is checked, and
"stereo," though checked, IS GREYED OUT.

I'm using a Soundblaster Live! soundcard and it works perfectly.

I looked on the back of my computer box and there is a line in from
the cable box, and of course the pic out to the monitor. There are 2
other female connections that look like S-video. Is there maybe
supposed to be a patch cord going from there to the sound "in" on my
soundcard?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the AIW 9000 pro and mine has a sound line out(minplug) to sound line
in(miniplug) on my SB Audigy. I had a WinTV card before this and it was the
same way. I don't know for sure about the 7000, I would assume it is the
same.

My 7200 uses the sound card for audio, no connector of any sort except the
composite connector as far as vid-in goes. When it installed it asked what
input from the sound card I wanted to use, e.g. line-in, aux etc. Vid-out is
either s-vid or composite but it also uses the sound card for audio.

Usually, 46erjoe, the connection from your AIW to your soundcard is
internal.

IIRC if you look on the card, you'll see one or two white 4 pin
connectors; if there are two, one should be marked CD and one should
be marked Line Out or something like that.

You need a lead from the Line Out (non-CD) connector to one of the
slightly larger 4 pin internal connectors on your sound card - Aux or
CD In would be favourite. You should have got a lead for this with
the card; otherwise computer shops usually sell them.

Then run the Initialization Wizard again (you can do that with a
button on one of the tabs on TV Setup) and this time you should have
the option to select a sound source (choose the one you plugged the
lead into on your soundcard, but it's easy to tell - you'll hear sound
when you select the right one).

After that, when you go into Setup again, you should have your sound
options active - and the sound should work! Wink
