Hi,

The chipset fan on my MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboard has started to
gimbal. I think it needs to be replaced but I'm having trouble finding
a replacement because the chipset fan on this mobo is right between the
PCI-E sockets, and if it protrudes too far, will cause problems placing
the second video board. Can anyone give any advice on a suitable
replacement?

Thanks,
Mark

I filed a parts RMA with MSI and they sent me a new, oil-soaked fan in a
big, and slightly oily motherboard box. I had suggested that they send
me two, but they didn't. It has been working fine for about half a year.
Unfortunately the little screws that hold down the fan are hard to free
up, and I ended up yanking the board to change the fan.

At the time, I had searched for a replacement. However, as you said, the
placement is difficult and the Neo4 chip runs pretty hot.

Hi,

How did you go about getting the spare part from MSI?

I've tried so far:
- Going to their online support page, "Go to the motherboard supplier"
(I got the motherboard from Novatech but they don't do component
servicing or anything like that)
- Writing to their support and returns addresses, no reply

Start a RMA and IIRC you have an option of an RMA without sending the
whole board -
