Post subject: Router Woes with Blueyonder
Archived from groups: alt>blueyonder, others (more info?)

i have purchased a netgear cable/dsl web safe router gateway, model
number rp614 and am having a great deal of trouble getting it running.
i have read this forum with great interest.

the network is set up ok locally, i.e. the router is accessible on
192.168.0.1 from my machine, 192.168.0.2

previously, this machine was connected straight to the cable modem, so
i set the router to 'cloak' the mac address of the machines NIC, as
advised earlier.

i can log onto the routers set up wizard to configure and test the
connection at 192.168.0.1, and am asked the following;

**does your internet connection require a login?**
( i presume no, but i have selected yes and entered my blueyonder
username and password as well)

**what is your account name?**
(i have tried my username, and my username.RemoveThis@blueyonder.co.uk)

**what is the domain name?**
(the notes advise this is your isp domain, so blueyonder.co.uk)

**internet ip address - get dynamically or use static**
(i leave it as get dynamically)

**dns server information - get automatically or specify**
(i leave it as get automatically)

the final option is to set the router mac address, which, as i
mentioned, was cloaked as the computer nic mac address.

you are then asked to test the connection, which in theory should
direct you to netgear.com, instead i get the generic 'page cannot be
displayed' message.

if i check the router status page back at 192.168.0.1 i can see that
an ip address and subnet mask has not been obtained from blueyonder.

help

Hi

Follow the instructions given to you in the cable-modem forums and you'll
be set. Basically you need to register the WAN MAC address of the router
then leave your CM powered-off overnight or spoof the MAC address of the PC
that's currently connected to your CM.

If you're still having problems post in the forums again and I'll go
through the setup routine with you.

Regards

The correct answer is no. The cable modem is always connected to the
network. If you tell the RP614 that it does need to logon then it
will try to logon but will always fail as the cable network does not
need a logon!

That's correct.

If the RP614 has not been able to logon (because it does not need to) then
it won't get an ip address. Tell it not to logon and things should
improve...
