S2460 Tyan Tiger 1.04 (or maybe later bios)
2x1800 MP
431 Enermax (Now 450 Kingwin: a supported power supply)
2x512 registered mem
Audigy
Geforce3
3COM 590c
21960 SCSI
60G IBM HD

ok i had my fair share of problems with the 2460, freezing the
geforce+audigy cards it was using, corrupting hard drives, but i had this
machine stable for nearly a year now, and it has worked pretty well.
But the other day i turned on the soft power and saw lights flast but
then nothing spinned up.

OK, must be that 431 enermax power supply, checked the 20 pin connecter for
burn marks (from the horror storries on cpu) nothing there. Replaced it
with a 450 kingwin with 45 on the +5 and 30 on the +12, and it still
would not power up.

OK, maybe it's the softpower switch gone bad, I reset cmos, and left the
switch connecter open and hard jumpered (and with the switch on the
soft power pins, not sure if it shorts the pins for a switch on or not),
neither config enabled power up, with both power supplies.

OK, i started taking out cards, i took out the Audigy, ethernet, SCSI cards,
and put the switch back on the soft power pins. Powered up (unfortunatley i
didn't have a montior connected to the gf) and it started spinning, and i heard
2 short beeps. Trying to look for the beep codes now, but the manual says any
beeps not recognizable are memory issues. So i Powered down, And tried each
of the 3 sticks i have (i was only using two 512s) in the first slot and
NO power ups. Yeah i'm pretty sure i seated them correctly when replacing.

Now i can't imagine ALL 3 memory sticks going bad at once, two inside computer
and 1 in antistatic bag outside, so i'm guessing this is a mother board issue.

I've emailed tyan support but i am not hopefully for a valid response other than
did you check your memory is ecc, and your power supply is on the list, and
have you tried our faq most problems can be found here, etc...

What i'm thinking on doing, since i can't find where to purchase a 2460, is
get a 2466 and repace it and hopefully all the drivers will work (save the TSM)

Any help is much thanked in advance.

bad CMOS battery or something i can fix (off to the battery shop.)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

2466 has it on board, and i disabled it for simplicity

well, even if it was a bad battery, it would have been bad in the new 2466
AND the old 2460 that's worked so well in the past. Now i'm completely stumped
new power supply AND new mother board with floppy and single stick of reg
memory installed, and I'm getting similar problems. I can actually wait for
it to post, and set the CMOS with the new 2466, but when i save settings and
reset, it fails to post (harddrive/power lights frozen and blank screen.) At
this point i have to jumper reset the CMOS and try again but i'm in the same
state as before, only posts once and is not able to post again or get to
floppy.

I'm sort of out of options, I've tried only using one CPU and that didn't make
a difference, i've tried different batteries and reseting CMOS, tried 3
different memory sticks, all with similar results and not able to boot to
floppy to load new bios. At this point i either have to assume i'm really
stupid or I have two bad mother boards. (I tried the trick of trying to
power up with no memeory and the motherboard beeps correctly and doesn't beep
if a stick is in the first slot and reads the memory fine.)

out of options... anyone know something i can try?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

My 2466N-4M is stubborn about rebooting. I find that toggling
the power supply switch does wonders to get it to reboot.

heh you're right, well doing some power toggling and maybe it was the fact that
i wasn't waiting 30+ seconds to clear the CMOS with the jumper. That appeared
to help. And i think the most devistating thing is my posting problems were
caused by me trying to plug a USB host device (joystick/keyboard/mouse) into
the usb port, THAT was causing it NOT to post!!!! I've read some where that
the 2466 sucks with usb, and that it "sometimes" comes with a card you have to
use to get USB to work. Can you use your usb ports on the mother board
with your 2466N-4m?

I'm thinking of going back to my 2460 just to make the usbs work, and proly
because it WAS the battery was dead in the 2460 AND the new 2466 i got.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I don't have any USB devices, so I have never bothered to
try them. One any motherboard that I have owned, for that matter.

i had hoped this was a cmos battery problem but it is not, after getting the
2466 to post and boot ok (Trying the 2460 installed harddrive with the
2466 didn't work, my linux part booted ok but XP part couldn't handle it).

So, i thought i'd try to put the known working battery back in the 2460
and give it a go. And no power up at all. If anyone has had a no power
up problem with the 2460 please comment?

And is it even possible to get a 2460 replacement, i can't even find that
one for sale anywhere all i can find are 2466s?

If someone RMAed their 2460 did you get a refurbed 2466 back or what?

I got back the usuall canned response from Tyan support, saying none of
their boards ever have any problems, so it must be something else.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
