SATA always as Raid...or?

Tell your "friend" to read up on SATA, and also on RAID. Your "friend"
is bluffing him/herself to be a wizard when they probably don't even
know what the "ATA" portion of SATA and PATA stands for. Go ahead. Ask
your friend to tell you what ATA means, and don't give them time to go
look it up on the web.

RAID is something that is added atop of SATA, PATA, and SCSI; see

Not that I know of. Im using sata adaptors so I can use my IDE drives
and I can use it in raid or non raid config . All my old RAID
controllers could work either way. I havent seen anything that says
you have to use it in RAID so Id be surprised if that was true.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

No, they dont' have to be RAIDed, but you board does have SATA support,

If you are going to take computer advice from your friends you need to be
especially careful in selecting your friends. It would appear that your
present friends are not well informed about computers. SATA is merely a
slightly different interface method -- whether you use it in RAID is up to
you and your budget.

Hey all and tnx for all the replies.

My motherboard is fairly new (less then 4 months), I'll check if it has
support for SATA disks when i get home.

SATA and RAID have no dependency on each other, and neither is required
to use the other.
