I'm building a new PC with a new Western Digital SATA HDD. My mobo's
BIOS does not see this new HDD. (I'm using an Asus P5K Premium board,
P35 chipset.)

I'm wondering if this situation is not a show-stopper however. If I
follow the many posts on the internet about installing XP with a SATA
HDD, will I be OK? (In other words, do the "F6" option when booting
from the XP install disc, and then install SATA drives from a floppy
drive.)

Thanks for any tips, best regards from Robert.

The drivers are needed for the operating system. But, the operating system
is not going to work with the hard drive, with or without drivers, if the
BIOS doesn't recognize that there IS a hard drive. The operating system
(software) is layered on top of the BIOS (firmware). The drivers will use
information FROM the BIOS.

Now it's possible that the drivers can program the CMOS for you. But don't
hold your breath on that. Figure out why your hard drive is not recognized
by BIOS. Most likely suspect is funky CMOS settings (clear your CMOS and
try again). -Dave

If you want to boot the operating system from this hard drive, then
the BIOS has to be able to detect the drive.

It sounds too simple, but I found the SATA cables can come loose very
easily. Check to make sure you didn't knock one out when you hooked up
something else.
