For even better thermal transfer results, don't use the shim at all. Quite
safe to do so, so long as you seat the ICE unit on squarely. I have also
lapped the ICE base. I too opted for using Arctic Silver (just remember use
of such products voids AMD guarantee) and have also changed the standard ICE
sunon fan to a TT SmartFan 2, using a rear mounted potentiometer to control
the fan speed. My system idles (quietly) at 35 degrees. Rising to 43-44
under full load.
