One of my old students dropped this unit off to me to check out as it won't
boot. I have tried everything I know to do. Tried a new ATX PS, different
RAM, even bought a cheap PCI Vid Card. It appears to boot, HD spin up, LED
on MB llights up. No Vid out. Reset Bios, replaced battery, no go. Now I
noticed it had a 1GHZ Celeron in it. This unit worked for quite a while,
student bought it from Fry's when he worked there. From some of the NG that
I have visited they say there can be a problem with the 1 GHz Celeron. Is
there any hope for this unit?

If it ran before, then the CPU is not a problem. Intel made a Tualatin core
1.0gig proc. But it will not boot in a SV24 without an adapter from folks
like upgradeware.com or possibly powerleap. The SV25 could handle the
Tualatin procs without an adapter. Could be his power supply failed and
took out the mobo with it. My SV24 power supply failed, but it didn't hurt
any of the hardware. If the voltages strayed too much while failing, then
it could have hosed the mobo. A new working ATX PS should have done the
trick if the internal PS failed and the mobo didn't. Does it seem finish
booting, i.e. you hear beeps and the hard drive is working while booting up
the OS? Or, does just the fans come on and nothing else?

Check the mainboard for any leaking or deformed electrolytic capacitors.

William.
