I just came into possession of an New in the box retail SY-K7V Dragon and I
was curious as to the quality of these boards.I just had to return my sons
board last week a MSI KT7-TURBO 2 running an Athlon XP Tbred 2100+ and was
going to replace with the same but he saw this Dragon I brought home and
that is all he keeps after me about. I still have another Turbo2 up on the
shelf but I was wondering if anyone had anything faster than a 1700+
Palomino running on one of these boards. I used to hear a lot of talk about
these and it seems a few peeps even asked about or phoned in to see if these
were in stock but we only sponsored Asus, Abit and MSI on the low end at the
time but no Soyo boards. I worked on a few and replaced a few Soyo boards
with others but It seems a few of those pulls we tried keep and setup to
sell as used machines but they were not very good and at that time the only
place I ever saw them was at CompUSA.
So in every ones honest opinion , 1. Should I keep this board for him? I do
have a few Palomino 1600's on the shelf but that would mean losing a small
amount of speed down from the 2100+ he has now. 2. Is it stable? The Turbo2
was a very stable board. I have built around this board about 7 or 8 times
and my wife also ran one until recently and not one problem what so ever
until I hooked a hurricane to the case fan connector instead of using the
4pin connector/converter to test the darn thing and blew something on the
board. The hard drive light would stay on and the case fan connector no
longer worked. And oh yea, he's 8 and this PC was his birthday gift this year
so I do want a very stable machine and not some piece of junk. For $58.00 is
all I had in the Turbo2 and that's $20.00 more than I got the Dragon new for
New and complete.
Thanks in advance >> Stay informed about: SY-K7V Dragon Should I keep it? |

There has been a huge amount of controversy about these SY-K7V plus
boards on this forum. Many have had very satisfying results and love
the boards; others have had hair-tearing problems, and never were able
to really stabilize the boards dependably, myself included. There is
really no point going into details about this and that experience, but
it would seem that there is a large percent (but still in the
minority!) of unhappy consumers with this board. The bottom line is
set it up, get SiSoftSandra and run the burn-in utility on the board
for 10 hours. If it runs stable and fast, keep it. If it gives you
any probs at all, don't wast your time putzing around with it, just
return it.
Hope I don't get flamed, but that is my take on it for what it's
worth.
I have built several units using the Shuttle AK39N board, have burned
them in with SiSoftSandra, my kids run their Heavy Graphics games on
them, Photoshop7, CorelDraw8, and Quark Express desktop publishing, my
daughter burns dozens of music CDs every month, and I have never had
one bluescreen crash due to the board with any one I have used. I had
one stick of bad memory once which I replaced and no more problems. I
have been checking the Shuttle Yahoo board, and have yet to see one
(1) problem posted with these boards since they came out 6 months ago.
I even posted a question about the board, and didn't receive one
reply post. Good board. $65 at Newegg. >> Stay informed about: SY-K7V Dragon Should I keep it? |

Well I can not return it. Bought in a lot sale I think on this one. I always
use Corsair Memory XMS and I have found Memory problems to be the one that
users have the most. Sub-Par Memory bring Sub-Par results IMHO. I never even
have had 1/10th the problems others have had out of the Asus A7V133's Abit
AT7-MAX2' and so on.
I use good memory and I build a lot of machines but always read the manual
when coming up on a new board I am not familiar with. Usually comes off with
out a hitch. Once I open this and install I no longer can sell as new so
that is the gamble I suppose as is everything else in life. I never even
considered a SOYO board before and would have no actively pursued one as a
choice of purchase.

I LOVE my Soyo Dragon and Soyo Dragon Plus. Great boards. I've had
mine for well over a year now. Stable as a rock (with the right
bios.) The current ka8 bios seems to be trouble-free. I wear my Soyo
T-shirt (that came with the board) with pride.
