High All

I have encountered a serious problem with one of PC's in this household Sad

The old 36gb WD Raptor sata I has decided to quit service and I have ordered
a
new 160 gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.9
A backstep I know but the Raptor was too big a mouthfull for my wallet

The new disk is Sata II but should be backward compatible with Sata I, hmmm

Here goes
Having the new disk as the secondary drive everything is fine and dandy -
except I can't boot on it being secondary
If the new drive is the first harddrive the darn thing won't read from the
disk - any disks - not even the DVD drives

I have tried adding the jumper to limit throughput to to 1.5Mb but to no
avail

What to do? - Other than buy a new (maybe ide) disk?
The mobo is an Intel 865Perl thing - rather "old" Smile

Argghh - thanks for yout patience and hopefully some assistance

- Peter
