Hey, I'm looking for a scanner that will handle (software) all conversion of
graphic/table from book to word xp. I guess Microsoft scanner are the best
(if any). I also want to comment text right in the ''scan''. I have cheap
budget, Which on should I buy?

You'll need a scanner and OCR (optical character recognition) software. =
Some scanners will include OCR but often it is a crippled or reduced =
feature version. *Good* OCR software isn't cheap. The real issue is =
what OCR product you should get, as even sub-$100 scanners are capable =
of scanning text docs against which you can use the OCR software to =
covert to text, tables, isolate images in the scanned page, or whatever =
the OCR software provides. Or are you simply trying to insert a graphic =
image whether it be a picture or text into your documents? Word and =
many other editors have functions to bring in scanned images. =20

Remember that if you are extracting content from books that you are =
violating copyrights unless you divulge your source, and use only for =
personal use, and/or contact the author to get their permission to =

1) How can "Microsoft scanner are the best" [/sic/] when MS never have,
do not, and (probably) never will manufacture scanners?!

2) Your address says you're in Canada, but English obviously isn't even a
casual acquaintance - never mind your mother tongue. May I suggest you
repost in a group that speaks whatever it is you do?

3) Or you could repost in comp.periphs.scanners, but I very much doubt if

Do Microsoft produce scanner ??
Anyway, most scanners do bundle OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
software. So far I know Canon scanner do bundle Omnipage which IMHO it
is the best OCR.

Scanner sales are rare nowadays but Compusa had one $29 after rebate
in April or May. Forget the date. I dont even know if they have them
in Canada but people post about deals at Office Max I think and Depot
from Canada so I know some US chains are there too.

There is - if I dare mention it , a Tiger Direct in Canada. They might
have a scanner deal. Some people have said negative things about TD so
its up to you if you want to risk it.

At Compusa the cheapest deal Ive seen usually is the Canon scanner $49
a really slim one that looks a bit flimsy but Ive seen decent reviews
on Canons. The new Epsons they have there are quite decent and Ive
noticed theyve stopped carrying the cheaper Epsons only the $100+
ones, not sure if that says something about the cheaper Epsons or not.
They used to carry them - I bought several of them there, Epsons are
fine but the lower end ones I bought have some quirky behavior now
with the aging software SMART PANEL and WIN XP. Other software works
ok like VueSscan - third party software but it doesnt function as well
as Smart Panel.

Its possible Office Max or Depot might have one since its so uncommon
nowadays and Im sure some Canadians might know some cheap places to
