Can anyone point me to either the service manuals or other tech
information for consumer digital cameras? I have an Olympus D460Z that I
use a lot as well as a Canon A20 that a friend gave me after it got salt
water in it and stopped working. Having worked with microelectronics and
optics for decades I cleaned the debris and corrosion from the interior
circuits of the A20 but it still doesn't come on. And, of course, repair
of either (should the Olympus ever need it) costs a flat fee that well
exceeds the replacement value of the camera!

If this information *is* available for any commercial line, that would be
a strong factor in my decision in any future purchase.

Many thanks!

The only way I know to get a service manual for anything is to look up the Email
or Phone number of the Support department of the manufacturer. Request a
Service manual. It will cost money.

Sams PhotoFact <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.samsphotofact.com/" target="_blank">http://www.samsphotofact.com/</a> technical info for many things.

Sam's doesn't have manuals for these. And most manufacturers don't make
them available except for in-house use. But they often exist. When I was
at HP in the '80s the manuals for their calculators were not available.
But every now and then the system would mistakenly list them as available
and I'd pounce and buy. The result was a set of manuals for many of their
calculators and accessories.

Similarly, I have the manual for my Compaq C-120 handheld computer and
have modified it accordingly (3x memory, etc.). But I've not found the
manuals for Canon or Olympus who would rather keep all the repair fees to
themselves.

Still looking for info. Many thanks to all!
