I have the same problem with my 503+/AT system. The shutdown fixes
did not "fix" this problem. I don't turn the machine off so it does
not annoy me that I don't see the shutdown screen. I'm using a TNT2U
32meg vid card with my system. Do you have any ACPI IRQ holders in
device manager IRQ list (double click the computer icon in device
manager to see the list). I'm trying to remember why I changed back
to the normal je4333 BIOS, I think it was a printer issue (printer and
parallel port scanner were happy as a lark for a long time, then
installed new printer drivers and a conflict emerged, probably due to
bi-directional operation on the parallel port).
You may need to force a reinstall of all the device drivers (there are
numerous posts on how to do this, one technique is to delete a
registry key, the "enum" key as I recall).

| Hi all,
| Slightly OT but...
| I have a 503+ v1.2 in an AT case on an AT PSU, using W98SE "as is"
on a
| HDD out of a previous PC which was in an ATX system.
| I updated the BIOS to JE4333apm a few weeks ago when I fitted a
K6-2+
| 450 (now at 4.5 x112!!) but I am missing the "it is now safe to turn
off
| your computer" shut-down screen. This was not a problem with the old
| 15incher as it clicked once Windows shut down. I have now acquired a
| better montitor which does not make any noticeable click on
shut-down
| and it's a bit hit-and-miss knowing when to switch off the PC.
| Can I recover the shut down prompt without an OS re-intsall (I know
it
| exists cos using the restart option puts it up momentarily)?
| TIA
|
