Post subject: Slight problem with GA-8S648FX-L
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

When I got this mobo it originally came with BIOS F6 and everything
seemed to work fine but when I upgraded to either F8 or F9b I ran into
numerous problems.

#1 the CMOs setting keeps resetting. If my CPU was overclocked,
sometimes it'd revert to default speed and once it claimed I had
2.0GHz P4 installed (I have 2.4GHz)

#2 DDR400 also keeps changing in value and a couple times it reported
100MHz DDR. If it was PC-100 maybe but I've never heard of DDR100.

#3 PCI slot #2 and #5 both seems to be incommundo. The mobo can
detect cards plugged there and Win XP can detect them but *always*
fail to load driver. Yet same card plugged into other slot loads and
works just find on first try.

I have gone back to the original BIOS I backed up before flashing and
I have not tried bios F7 yet.

DVD-ROM, DVD burner, 2 HDs, 3x 512MB RAM GeForce 5600FX 256MB, 3 port
firewire card, and 400MHz 2.4G P4 running Win XP Home SP2. The CPU is
colleced by watercooling with 120vac pump and its temp unfer full load
usually stays below 110F at 2.4GHz. The power supply is 600 watts and
I don't think I'm using anywhere near that, maybe 400 at the most
without overclocking.

I did not try reinstalling the whole Windows XP, I just did a clean
install less than 2 months ago. The time spent downloading all the
updates and patches over 56k discourages me from doing another clean
install at this time.
