Check with your manual, but as it's not sold as web-camera it's
probably not suited for such use. Some other less known brands do
that - and then with less-suited CMOS (and not CCD, as in most other
digicams you'll see) sensors in their cameras. CMOS is OK for digicams
too, just look at Canons dSLRs - but in this context it is not good
enough with their very low specs.
I have a few reasons for that it's not useable as a webcam: it's
battery powered and thus will not last long (AC cord is optional, but
it'll cost more than a webcam), it's not meant for 25 frames per
second continous use and a good webcam is really more useful as a
webcamera - combos might be attractive, but not very good as we have
the picture quality to concider as well.
In short; for webcam use, get a webcam - preferrably one with a
high-quality CMOS sensor, i.e. not the cheap ones with just awful
picture quality in low-light situations.

With my Canon PowerShot A60 I got this program called Remote Capture -
have you checked to see if not Sony too has included such a software?
RC uses the HDD for storage, and lets me set the parameters like (no)
flash, shutter, aperture, focal length, whitebalance, etc - just like
using the camera in-hand.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Sony Dsc-P72 |

The Remote Capture software will only work with Canon cameras.
Most Canons (www.powershot.com) use Compact Flash, as do mine.
As a last resort, if your camera outputs to video in shooting mode,
you could have pictures off the camera captured thru the use of a tv
capture card and appropritate TV-card software.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Sony Dsc-P72 |
