Could someone explain how different Sony monitors rate? I am only looking at
17" trinitron models, used. Something with 1600 x 1200 @ 70Hz resolution and
..25mm dot pitch.

I really don't think anyone makes a 17" that will do that. Why not a
19"? - they are not much more expensive...

The NEC FE791SB will do just that, 1600x1200@75Hz to be exact:
http://www.necmitsubishi.com/products/home/ProductDetail.cfm?product_i...10&divi

Cool. Anyways, it's still quit absurd to limit your search to 17"
monitors, if you want to run that kind of resolution...

I don't believe a 19" is adequate either. I can just about make things out
on a 21" at that resolution.

Any 96khz hf monitor will do 1600*1200(75hz),but on a 17" crt it may probably
be used for some preview/overview purposes, but i myself never even used this
mode on 19".
